Vans become part of driving and rest-time enforcement
From 1 July 2026, vans over 2.5 tonnes performing international goods transport must be fitted with a tachograph and comply with the EU driving and rest-time rules. Here is an overview of who is affected and what it requires.
Who is affected?
- Vans with a gross weight over 2.5 tonnes
- Performing international goods transport
- Goods transport for hire or reward, or on own account
Requirements for companies
- Installation of tachographs in the relevant vehicles
- Application for a company card (tachograph card)
- A permit for international van transport is required
Requirements for drivers
- Use of the tachograph during international transport
- Compliance with driving and rest-time rules
- Daily and weekly driving limits
- Required breaks and rest periods
- Use of a personal driver card
Control and enforcement
- The Danish Road Traffic Authority summons companies by letter with access to the Business Portal
- Police can enforce the rules at roadside checks from 1 July 2026
