New tachograph rules for vans from 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026, the EU’s tachograph and driving/rest-time rules extend to light commercial vehicles over 2.5 tonnes in international goods transport and cabotage. Make sure your fleet is ready in time.
Who is affected
Vans with a permissible gross weight over 2.5 tonnes (up to 3.5 tonnes) used for cross-border goods transport or cabotage within the EU.
Smart tachograph required
Vehicles must be fitted with a second-generation smart tachograph (G2V2 / Smart Tacho 2), which records border crossings automatically, among other things.
Driving & rest times apply
Max. 9 hours of daily driving (10 hours twice a week) and a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving — plus the posting-of-drivers rules.

When tachograph data is downloaded in Evofleet, information is collected from both the vehicle’s tachograph and the driver’s card. The data is stored securely and provides a unified overview of activities across vehicles and drivers — for documentation, follow-up and insight into daily operations.
